The first of our productions is a stage-rendition of several continuous scenes from the Victor Hugo novel - Notre Dame de Paris - and is titled 'ANAГKH' (pronounced An-an-ge) (NECESSITY from ancient Greek), and will be performed on the 31st of July 2009 in the ruins of Coventry Cathedral. The director, Kristina Laitinen, felt highly inspired by the atmosphere in the Notre-Dame cathedral during her first visit to Paris in 2004. When she came to Coventry in 2006, she found that the walls of the old local gothic cathedral by its mysterious architecture showed likenesses. Her desire to work within those walls grew into the idea to use the ruins as a performance space by picking up a novel by one of her favourite authors, Victor Hugo, and adapting several scenes from it to stage.
