In Touch Productions is a theatre company established by Kristina Laitinen in her final year of studying Dance and Theatre at Coventry University. We work primarily with classic 19th century literature - a period which has heavily influenced theatre in the present day. We have undertaken a challenge to focus on the novels and written prose published several centuries ago, and bring them to life for the modern audience. Our intention is to remain true to the original texts, whilst infusing it with our own creative touch, though making sure not to lose touch with the authors’ original messages and to achieve the most naturalistic atmosphere possible. We hope for the audience to recognise those connections and see the influences of those roots, leaving the space with respect for the classic literature of the period. We also believe that an audience should not need to have studied a play in detail in order to enjoy it. With our productions, we aim to simply tell the story with a visual and fast-paced delivery.
“Until recently, artists took their time to create their own work, whether it be architecture, fine art, literature or performances of any kind. But technology has taken us so far that people are forgetting the creative skills we are capable of. Habitually, it is easy for us to avoid the complexity of old works by changing their contexts to be more suited to modern language and society, instead of digging deeper into the original and discovering the purposeful messages that are hidden beneath.” - Kristina Laitinen
The first of our productions is a stage-rendition called 'ANAГKH' (pronounced An-an-ge) (NECESSITY from ancient Greek) - several continuous scenes taken from the original novel by Victor Hugo, Notre-Dame de Paris (completed and published in French in 1831) which will be performed on the 31st of July 2009 in the ruins of Coventry Cathedral.
